Business Management as a profession had emerged in response to the social, economic and business environment needs. The Business Management profession has shown a continuous and tremendous growth in the business world, and its need becomes mandatory for every kind of organizations. Business Management, in the modern context of business is hardly needed, because the success of one company over another is due to the difference in leadership and management of human and non-human resources.
The basic rationale of the program is attributed to the observed continuous boom of business along with the rapid and continuous economic development and flourishing of different organizations in Ethiopia over the past decades. Different countries in general, and Ethiopia, in particular host various organizations: private, governmental, profit making, non-profit making, service, manufacturing organizations, etc. The business world is becoming increasingly complex and is facing new and greater challenges continually. The Business Management profession, a key profession in modern business society, will have to meet these challenges. Due to globalization, private and non-private companies are forced to compete with international and multination companies. To be successful and survive in this throat cutting global competitions; producing robust, all-rounded, flexible, vibrant and visionary Business management professionals who can understand the macro and micro management and business environments to solve real-world problems are hardly in need.
Given the volatility of events, the Business Management education program needs to provide new skills and knowledge to Business Management graduates who enter the profession. As a result, this curriculum for the degree program in Business Management is initiated by the demand for the professionals in all economic sectors such as business, not-for-profit, and government organizations in the national and international market and the relevance of the program for the country’s overall development endeavor.
Business Management is a crucial element in economic growth of a country. It brings together the factors of production: money, machinery, men, methods, markets and material to enable the country to experience economic development. A country with enough capital, manpower and other natural resources can still be poor if it does not have competent managers to combine and coordinate the resources efficiently and effectively. In the words of Drucker; “without management country’s resources of production remain resources and never become products”. Management is important for learners because of many reasons. Of which some are:
- Our society depends on specialized institutions or organizations to provide us with goods and services.
- Organizations are guided by managers who allocate resources and have responsibility and authority to deliver quality, to manufacture safe, to declare war or peace, to build cities, to keep the environment clean and so on.
- Managers create jobs on one hand and goods and services on the other hand.
Hence, Admas University has been playing its role in filling the supply and demand gaps by producing competent and qualified manpower through its degree program in Business Management. And the university is updating its curriculum to best meet the demand for Business Management professionals in the national and international market and the relevance of the program for the country’s overall development endeavor.
